A private utility locator is a professional who specializes in identifying underground utilities not owned by a public utility company.
These may include gas and electrical lines to shops, barns, pools, water lines, sewer laterals, and more.
The meter is the legal separation of what you own and what the utility company owns. Anything after the meter will not be marked by 811.
In fact, the majority of utilities in existence are privately owned and are not marked by the 811 One Call system.
